The Ithaca Concert Band Conductors
Keith A. Kaiser and Elizabeth B. Peterson


Keith KaiserKeith A. Kaiser is interim-Associate Dean of the School of Music and Chair of the Music Education Department at Ithaca College.  An Associate Professor, he is Assessment Coordinator for the School of Music and holds degrees from the Florida State University (Ph.D.), the University of Redlands (M.M.), and the University of Wyoming (B.M.).  As a faculty member at Ithaca College, he teaches undergraduate and graduate music education courses, supervises junior and senior level student teachers, and conducts various instrumental music ensembles.  In addition, he serves as co-conductor of the Ithaca Concert Band (a community ensemble).  Dr. Kaiser is active throughout the country as a guest conductor, presenter, clinician, adjudicator and consultant, and he was co-recipient of a highly-selective Sounds of Learning grant to study the functions of music education in American Public Schools.  A Presser Scholar, he is published in Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, School Music News, Reverberations, Journal of Music Therapy, and International Society for Music Education (ISME) Commission for Policy: Culture, Education, Mass Media.  His professional affiliations have included the Music Educators National Conference, the New York State School Music Association, the College Music Society, the College Band Directors National Association, the National Band Association, and the American Music Therapy Association.  Kaiser has presented at the Music Educators National Conference (national and regional), the New York State School Music Association Conference, the Southeastern College Band Directors Association Conference, the American Music Therapy National Conference, the World Congress of Music Therapy, and the College Music Society.  Additionally, his research has been highlighted at the International Society for Music Education, the Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Education, and the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium.  Dr. Kaiser has taught elementary, middle, and high school in Wyoming, Florida, and California — where he was founder and conductor of the University of Redlands’ Wind Ensemble for Young Musicians.  He resides in Ithaca with his wonderful family: wife, Jen, 4-year old son, Andrew, and 1-year old twins, Christopher and Meghan.

Elizabeth PetersonElizabeth B. Peterson is an Assistant Professor of Music Education  and conductor of the Symphonic Band at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Professor Peterson  teaches undergraduate methods courses in instrumental music, courses in conducting and supervises student teachers. She received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Shenandoah Conservatory, a Master of Music degree from  Northwestern University and Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan.  Before moving to Ithaca, Dr.Peterson was an arts administrator and Director of Bands at several public schools in Ohio and Illinois. Peterson played trumpet in the Northshore Concert Band under the direction of John P. Paynter.  Beth Peterson is active as a clinician and guest conductor.  Peterson is a new music reviewer for the Instrumentalist Magazine and currently serves as co-conductor of the Ithaca Concert Band, Ithaca's adult community band.
